What Is Passive Construction?

Passive Construction — also known as Passive House design — is an approach that dramatically reduces a home’s energy use while enhancing comfort, air quality, and durability. Through a combination of super-insulated walls, triple-pane windows, airtight construction, and high-efficiency mechanical systems, these homes require very little energy to heat or cool.

When paired with solar panels and a fully electric infrastructure, a Passive House can achieve net-zero energy status — meaning it produces as much energy as it consumes over the course of a year. That’s not just energy efficiency — that’s energy independence.
